Setting my Bix'n Andy trigger

How do I set my Bix’n Andy Competition trigger’s pull weight and fine tune lower sear engagement?

Hi Stuart,

With the Remington 700 version of the Competition Trigger. Fine tuning is a simple an straightforward process. As long as you follow this exact order of steps, you should achieve a good break every time.

  1. Adjust pull weight. The set screw inside the trigger shoe blade itself is used to adjust pull-weight. A spring sits behind this screw so turning clockwise increases compression and therefore pull-weight. Once you have a weight that feels comfortable, you can move to the next step.
  2. Install the trigger in the action you want to use it with. Make sure that you are practicing proper gun safety etiquette while working with the trigger in your action / rifle.
  3. Turn the sear engagement screw counter clockwise so that there is a lot of overlapping sear engagement (creep) inside the trigger. This guarantees that the cocking piece will engage with the trigger in the next step.
  4. Close the bolt. With the action armed, slowly turn the sear engagement screw clockwise until you reach the exact spot where the firing pin falls by itself. Open the bolt.
  5. Back the sear engagement screw out exactly 1/4 turn.

At this point most triggers will engage cleanly with perfect let-off. Cycle the bolt 50 times rapidly to test for safety. If it prematurely breaks on any of the 50 cycles, you do not have enough sear engagement and you should repeat steps 3 - 5 above.

If you still detect some creep, move to the next section.

  1. Turn the sear engagement screw in just a hair (around 3º at a time).
  2. Test again (if there is no creep, cycle the bolt 50 times for safety).
