Scales, which one is worth its weight in powder

My 2 cents. The A and D FX120i is the best money I’ve ever spent on reloading equipment.

My AutoTrickler V4 coupled to a FX120i scale with a TripLite line conditioner delivers 50 powder charges with 2-3 overshoots per 50 at +/- 0.02 grains accuracy in less than 30 minutes. It handles H4350, Varget, SW Precision and VVN-140 equally well.

Thank you for the info. I’m going to get one on order

Thanks for your reply. I love buying things twice. I’m going to get one ordered in a few minutes.

I have the same scale the problem with it is the zero keeps changing an example: Turn the scale on for a half hour put a cup on it. Zero the cup out, take the cup off then it gives me a number. That number should be the same at all times, the next day put the same cup on the scale zero it out take the cup off, it reads a different number. It’s always changing day-to-day or even for a week, that should not be happening for an expensive scale. That same cup should always weigh the same. I called the company and I got a stupid reply that dirt is building up on the cup.

Last year I sent my first one back for a replacement for the same reasons. Now this one won’t hold a zero from one charge to the next. They told me it was an Internal problem within the scale. There should be a recall on these scales and let people send them back for a “store credit”, they do have other products that are worthy of their name.

If you should ever drop that glass cup and it breaks, don’t order one from McDonald’s in Canada, a regular shot glass works just fine. I broke one, ordered one then a few weeks later i received a bill for $10.00 more from the shipper for a Tariff from Canada.

Wow, I’ve got over a hundred shot glasses from all over the world so I won’t be ordering from “Mickie D’s” in Canada

I contacted Creedmoor about my scale but I told them I clean my cup with a dryer sheet before each use (which I do), plus I use the shield as a dust cover when not in use. So they are sending me some little gismo to connect to the power cord to ward off foreign electromagnetic interferences to stop my scale from having erratic readings. We’ll see…

I would suggest you get a TripLite power conditioner and run your scale through it. It stops the small current spikes that uber sensitive electronic scales hate. Also have all of your lighting with LED bulbs.

I’ve used the same RCBS Charge Master 1500 for maybe 15 years. I let it warm up for a few minutes before I calibrate and then check calibration again after a couple hours of use if necessary. I then go back periodically and re-weigh things that I have previously weighed (e.g. bullets or cases). Seems to be very consistent. I shoot F-Class 600 and 1000 yard and do fine. When I miss at that range, I don’t change powder measures. As long as my scores are better than others, I’m happy with the powder measure. I also highly recommend that reloaders seek a load that is in the middle of a long accuracy node to accommodate slight changes in burn rate, charge weight, barrel conditioning, etc. Then you won’t experience as much pain when powder changes may occur, brass thickness, powder measure, primer, evary a tiny bit.

Well guys I’m happy to say my A&D along with my Dandy trickler work just great, I’m also using my ChargeMaster 1500 to throw the initial charge 0.1gr below my goal weight. As far as the Creedmoor scale,

I haven’t fooled with it since I got the A&D setup. For me this works better than the auto tricklers, no apps to deal with and not adjustments to make. My cousin bought the A&D w/ auto trickler and it takes him almost 20 minutes of fiddling with it to get the charge the where he wants it and another 10 minutes to change powders. By the time he gets started charging cases I’ve already charged at least 15-20 cases.

Thanks for all your recommendations

Good to hear it’s working well for you. I love my A & D and Dandy Trickler!

To get into reloading I have assembled OpenTrickler paired with G&G JJ100B scale.
So far I love it. My first strings went with 3 fps SD and 9 fps ES

Man that sounds fantastic, I have run my 6 PPC past the Garmin yet. What cartridge are you running?

Thanks! I load for .308win.

I’ve been using the lyman digital scale and dispenser from fleet farm for years. I rezero every 100 cartidges just out of paranoia, but I randomly tested against my beam scale the first few years, and it was always accurate to that. good enough for single digit sd on my valkyrie and 6gt. Haven’t shot anything other than those two since 2020.
