Tell us what your favorite game to chase is, and what ammo you are using!

When I am chasing deer on the prairie or in the woods, I prefer my .308, using Berger 168 Classic Hunter. This combo has not let me down yet, just ask the deer in my freezer.

.308 has always been a popular caliber for me. I need to find some time to go on a hunt again, it’s always so much fun.

Coyote and my new dumb idea is 22CM. I was fire forming 22-250 lapua brass but now trying Peterson So far awesome brass

I like that paint job!

I am not sure if P-dogs count as hunting. But a 22-250 is a joy to shoot, super fast, low recoil, and does a heck of job on coyotes as well.

Thanks i appreciate it

I built the both rifles and CERAKOTE that one and messed around with a couple of handgun frames I was an armorer for DOD for a few years

I would love to go p-dodging. I believe it counts!

I’d say it counts.

Here in PA we chase Whitetails most of the time! Be it archery, muzzle loader, or the regular “rifle” season, from around the first of October through the primitive muzzle loader season well into January, these deer create a huge amount of recreation! I’ve been lucky enough to hunt several other big game animals in places like Alaska, B.C, Quebec, New Brunswick, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. But somehow by mid-October, we always find our way back to Pennsylvania!

My favorite is rutting bull elk, but that’s with a bow. My favorite rifle hunt is coues Whitetail deer in AZ. They are tough, 100 lb deer (part mountain goat) that live in steep, rocky, brushy, nasty country. Shots are rarely less than 300 yards. Establishing a good, solid shooting position can be a challenge.

Eastern Washington Whitetail and Mule Deer. I shoot a Ruger M77 Hawkeye in 25-06, hand-load 100gr Sierra GameKing’s. But recently purchased Berger 115gr. VLD Hunting bullets to try out.

Wow, favorite game to chase. I guess these days it would be coyotes, especially at night. Love to chase elk once a year but I’m getting pretty long in the tooth and saying more and more that round is a shape. I was fortunate enough to harvest a bull the last two years (did not go this year) and am scheduling a hunt for 2026. Hopefully my son will be able to go, not sure I can carry one out by myself again. Makes for a long, long day.

Have not taken a deer in several years.

For some reason or another, land owners complain about wild hogs and the damage they do here in Texas but want to charge $300 or more to kill or trap them when you’re offering to help them out. Go figure. But…coyotes seem to be on just about everyone’s hit list, especially if they have any livestock at all.

For elk I shoot a 7LRM with a Berger 168gr VLD over 70.5gr H1000. Have been fortunate enough to this point not to have taken a shot beyond 400 yards but am confident to 600 as that is as far as I can practice.

Coyotes, 22-250 with a 69gr TMK over 36.3gr of 4831sc.

The 6.5PRC was recently built and I am working loads with the Berger 140gr and 156gr Elite hunters. H1000, H4831sc, and H4350 are what I have on hand right now but I do have plans on getting some VihtaVuori powders and giving those a shot as well.

Try N565 in the 6.5 PRC. It’s great with the139 Scenar, 147 ELDM and the 156 gr Berger. Btw, the Scenar is DEVASTATING on whitetails.

N565 is good to hear, that’s one of the powders at the top of my list to get.

Reloader 26 should be a good fit for the 6.5 PRC, too. It works well in my 6.5 SAUM with everything from 135 ATips down to 80 grain Hammer HHTs.

Good to know.

Reloader powders in my area are almost nonexistent so I’ll have to try to order some to test.

Always a fan of wildcats, I’ve taken most big game with a 280 AI and 168 gr Berger Classic Hunter but I recently have been using a 7-300 PRC for some LR stuff utilizing 195 EH EOLs from Berger as well. The bullet is quite impressive in its penetration and then rather rapid expansion. Leaving large and prolific entry wound and expelling every ounce of energy in the body cavity. The results are quick and ethic kills at just about any range. I’ve also loaded the 156 EOLs in 6.5 PRC and they are just a lethal.

The bullets themselves are as easy to tune as SMKs but with much more reliable expansion on target. I’ve yet to see one pencil in like a lot of cup and core OTMs tend to do at shorter ranges. Killed animals from 50-692 yards. Single shot kills every time.

I like all kinds of shooting… I guess you could say I’m a shooter. However, I’d have to say that antelope my favorite to hunt. For most of my life, I used to get four tags annually. As a rifleman, I tried to get two of them on the run within a couple hundred yards and a couple at longer range out to 500 yards. Their speed is unrivaled and hitting them on the run makes a spectacular spill. I also like to eat them more than any other game animal. You have to treat their delicate meat like you would a prime Angus steer but if you do, it is even better. I use a 25-06 AI for them with 100g bullets going about 3,550 fps. It makes the short leads very predictable.

RL26 is literally amazing in the 6.5 PRC and the 6.5x284. Velocity and precision up the whazoo. However, it does not exist anymore in America. Alliant is prioritizing military contracts and not exporting
