Remington Bolt Lift

I have a Rem 700 in 6 PPC that I bought used with very light and smooth bolt lift after firing. I have a Rem Model 7 that takes brut strength to open after firing, even with mild loads. What needs to be done to the Model 7 to achieve light and smooth bolt lift? Any recommendations and suggestions I’d appreciate.

there are a number of issues that can lead to heavier bolt lift. the firing pin spring is obviously a huge part of the torque requirement. is the bolt hard to lift after dry-firing? if not then one may have to look at the bolt face. if it is our of perpendicular with the bore then that is a common cause for heavy bolt lift. have you inspected your cases for pressure? is it hard to close the bolt on a fired case?

The bolt is hard to lift after firing. I have no signs of pressure on fired cases. Bolt lugs have no signs of dragging nor any signs of a protruding action screw or rail screw.

Have you tried the bolt body alone to confirm it moves freely throughout the cycle?

Do you lubricate the bolt lugs and cocking-ramp /cocking-piece?

I’m not familiar with the model 7 but if the firing pin assembly threads into the bolt body the threads could be creating a lot of drag.

Yes I have taken the bolt completely apart, cleaned, greased and lubed every part. The Model 7 bolt is the same as a Rem 700 just shorter

Did you tease the threads between the Firing Pin Shroud and Bolt Body?

Yes, I touched everything. It does open a little smoother now but still a heavy lift

is the bolt hard to lift after dry-firing?

Yes, but not as heavy after I lubed everything
