Bought the combo pack when it first came out. I really like the one, two, punch. Like most of us here, I have several boxes full of cleaning products. Lately, i find myself grabbing my ThorroClean products first.
Legend !!! We appreciate your review !
I’ve used the ThorroClean products several times to reduce carbon deposits in the 1st 1/3 of the barrel. It was effective and I could not see any detrimental effect on 1000yd groups.![]()
Gents,
I have been using ThorroClean for a couple of years now and just recently have turned a few of my friends onto it as well. They couldn’t believe how well it works, especially when cleaning out carbon rings…
However, I was challenged with a question that I couldn’t quite answer by someone very skeptical about ThorroClean and prodcuts like it(Iosso, etc.). They asked me how does this cleaner work so well and not have abrasives in it? Does it hurt the life of the barrel if used after every cleaning? I told him I use it after every range session and it hasn’t hurt my barrels at all.
What is your take on using ThorroClean after every range session?
Hey Atlas, I’ve been using the ThorroClean “system” for a while now. I only use the “cream” when I feel it needs it. Mostly use the Flush on patches and the blue Isso brush, finish with wet patches then dry. This maintains my rifles bore really good.
I do suggest the solid Teslong Borescope to inspect for carbon ring. Only then will I use the cream abrasive and work the “ring” hard.
The thing I’m watching now is how ThorroClean does on copper. Anybody care to wade in on copper with ThorroClean?
After I dry patch, I always leave a coat of Bortech bore conditioner
Hi @Atlas0065 ,
Great question! Thanks for reaching out. So in ThorroClean, there are microscopically smooth spherical silica balls. Technically, because they exist in the formula you could say it has abrasives in it, but the truth is that since they are so small, the formula is less abrasive than toothpaste.
Rather than scrape away carbon and copper, they are able to penetrate and get under deposits. They then lift and move the fouling out the barrel rather than aggressively scrub the barrel.
I hope this helps explain things.
How do you feel about using Thorroclean with VFG (either intensive felt pellets or non intensive pellets) instead of a nylon brush. Would the VFG be too aggressive combined with Thorroclean?
I’m not sure what VFG is. I have used felt pellets but never thought they fit tight enough in my bores.
VFG are hard felt pellets made. to size of bore, they are made in germany. They have intensive & non-intensive pellets, they are sold by brownells.
