Bix'n Andy Competition trigger balls

I have had multiple gunsmiths who recommend that the standard balls in the Competition trigger be replaced with Tungsten Steel balls of the same size. Is this really necessary?

Thanks!

It is not recomended by Bullet Central but if it works it works.

Thanks. When I got my first Bix Competition trigger, I used it for a long time before some folks convinced me to change to the Tungsten steel balls. In my experience, there is no difference with the Tungsten balls, so I’ll stick to the stock parts when I get another trigger.

I replace the original SS balls with 5mm ceramic ball bearings in 2019. I purchased them at BOCA Bearings. They were pricey, but not too bad considering the $500 trigger price.

Lee, if I might ask, why did you replace the stock balls?
Thanks…

Someone told me that some of the very earlier triggers may have been manufactured with the ball bearings not meeting the hardness requirements, resulting in micro flat spots forming upon firing. Ceramic ball bearings are harder than stainless steel. In short range Benchrest, no one wants to chance trigger issues and associated consistency.

Hi Lee, around 8+ years ago, that was the case.

The pitting on the ball bearings was mainly happening in cases where a firing resulted in a pierced primer. Since then Bix’n Andy has sourced new ball bearings from a different supplier and I cannot recall a case where we have seen pitting since.

I hope this helps in way of a general update.
