Thanks for sharing @datdotty! I see you use an action with a 90Âş throw. Have you ever tried a 75Âş throw? If you have, how do you feel they compare?

I have tried 75 degree bolt throw. They seem to be the new hot trend now.

Pros to 75 degree

You won’t jam your finger between the bolt lever and optics

If you have extended magnification lever on optics the bolt lever won’t make contact with each other like a 90 degree bolt throw would when you’re at max zoom.

Maybe ever so slightly faster in releasing next round into chamber.

Cons

Takes a little bit more upward force to throw the bolt lever upwards.

That’s really interesting insight. I’ve heard from so many places that bolt obstruction with optics is a common problem with 90º throw actions and I can see how that would be worse with an extended magnification lever.

The added upward force needed to open the bolt can make operation tricky unless you have practiced quite a bit and become familiar with the forces needed to open your bolt effectively.

Thanks for the feedback!

Your load looks good. I’m operating at 2710 fps with a little lighter load in a 28” barrel.

CA Mesa, 22” barrel, 40.3 gr H4350, Win LR primer, Hornady fired brass, 2710 fps. Hornady 140 gr ELDM

I have since changed my load data. Everything on my rifle is still the same but I wanted to experiment with a hotter load and so far it has been doing very well for me. Changed from starline to Lapua brass.

42.3gr H4350

Brass: Lapua small primer

Primer: cci 450

140gr Berger hybrid

BTO: 2.203

Temperature: 80-90F

Average velocity : 2820-2850

SD: 5.4

No pressure signs or ejection marks and so far on my 3rd firing on the brass. Still tight primer pockets.

Good information and a great load. I doing some load work with N555 and the 140 Hybrid. I need to get a few more rounds through the barrel before I really get serious. Your information is helpful. Thanks for sharing.

Good shooting,

Steve

Feel free to share your load data for N555 . Have you noticed any difference between n555 vs h4350? I want to get a pound of N555 to experiment with.
